Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced Miami University as one recipient of a state "campus safety grant." The grant, totaling $5 million distributed between 27 Ohio institutes of higher education, will bolster campus security across many Ohio universities.

Miami University, home to 19,000 graduate and undergraduate students, was awarded a campus safety grant of $120,095. University officials are currently deciding where to divert grant funds.

“We will be using the funds to maintain and upgrade equipment for our computer forensics program, video for our body cameras, and physical access controls to our police department," said Miami Spokeswoman Jessica Revinius.

In order to receive grant funding, schools assessed potential risks in their existing security systems to identify areas for improvement. Eligible expenses include but are not limited to improved lighting in parking lots, security cameras at building entrances, and secure doors.
