A ransomware attack has hit at least 20 local government entities in Texas.

The Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) said that the state's Division of Emergency Management is assisting by coordinating state agency support through the Texas State Operations Center.

Currently, DIR, the Texas Military Department and the Texas A&M University System’s Cyberresponse and Security Operations Center teams are deploying resources to the most critically impacted jurisdictions.

The specific agencies and their jurisdictions were not disclosed, and the department did not say whether the cybercriminals had specified an amount to pay in ransom.
