A study of 712 small- and medium-sized retail business owners found that theft of merchandise by customers (79 percent), vandalism (66 percent), break-ins (64 percent) and online security (58 percent) were the top concerns for retailers.

Reflecting on the state of their business at the end of 2013, only 32 percent felt they were “extremely” or “very secure from theft” prior to the holiday season, according to the Harris Poll survey, commissioned by ADT.

Although most respondents noted the use of deadbolt locks and access control solutions (56 percent) or door chimes (55 percent), video surveillance solutions were the most desired security tool to alleviate everyday security concerns, with 66 percent of respondents using security video.
