New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has reiterated his plans to institute a municipal ID card for New Yorkers.
Addressing the annual Somos El Futuro Conference, a gathering of Latino lawmakers recently, De Blasio restated his commitment for a New York City Municipal ID card.
If adopted, New York would become the largest city to issue such a card for residents including undocumented aliens, according to The New York Times.
The card is intended to make it easier for illegal aliens to obtain municipal services, open bank accounts, and rent apartments. Currently, New Haven, Los Angeles and San Francisco are among the municipalities issuing such cards.
The mayor is on record as saying that he did not want any city "residents to live their lives in the shadows."
