The MTA says the recordings will increase safety, provide for better customer service, and offer authorities better information in case of an accident or other problem on board.

Maryland is a two party consent state under wiretapping laws that requires the party being recorded to give consent. 

The audio records are overwritten and, thereby, deleted every 30 days and the recordings are not routinely kept active.
