The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee gave voice-vote approval to the nomination of Erroll Southers to be assistant secretary for the Transportation Security Administration.

"To this job, Mr. Southers brings the nearly three decades of experience in public safety, homeland security and intelligence he has earned working at all levels of government and in academia," said panel Chairman Joseph I. Lieberman, I-Conn.

Southers' nomination was approved by the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee last month and now goes to the full Senate for confirmation.
