It was recently discovered that the details of 5 million unique credit and debit cards were exposed in a data breach. According to the findings, sensitive screenshots were exposed on an unsecured Amazon S3 bucket. These screenshots showed users inputting sensitive information into fraudulent promotional offers (such as discounted holiday gifts). This amounted to more than 44 million screenshots and 5 terabytes of data, and the estimated value of the leaked data is more than $85 million.
At this time, it is unknown how long this data has been exposed online. The report warns that due to to the close proximity to the holiday season, shoppers could find their financial data at risk.
