Due to strong calls from various industries for highly qualified executives with strong technical experience, the Polytechnic Institute of New York University (NYU-Poly) has announced a management track to its award-winning master's degree in cyber security, according to a press release from NYU-Poly.

"(This program) will prepare graduates to manage a team of cyber-security personnel as well as a command of the business acumen to secure information in line with company objectives, said NYU-Poly Computer Science and Engineering Professor Nasir Memon, who leads the school's cyber security program.

According to the release, the program will be tailored for professionals with strong technical backgrounds interested in managing computer security. The management track curriculum comprises three courses worth nine credit hours.

The classes will cover the fundamentals of information security management including risk management, legal issues, policy and operational best practices, as well as business principles driving security decisions, the press release states.

It will integrate "state-of-the-art information on security technology with insightful management techniques. Industry experts explore how to close vulnerability gaps left by developers, system managers, company personnel, customers and unknown outside forces," the release says.

The program's graduates will be able to assume positions such as information technology risk manager, IT security manager or chief information security officer, according to NYU-Poly.

Classes begin this summer, and the program is available both on the NYU-Poly Brooklyn campus and the school's e-learning unit, NYU-ePoly.

Virtualization and Data Center Security: What You Need to Know for 2014

Data centers are increasingly becoming the center of the enterprise, and data center and cyber security is following the same path for security departments. According to Justin Flynn, a consultant at the Burwood Group, the virtualization of data centers allows enterprises to scale more easily and faster, with a smaller footprint.

However, hosting enterprise data in the cloud can make intrusion detection more difficult – how can enterprise security leaders team up with other departments to keep aware of cyber risks and traffic, and physical and data compliance during the virtual transition? How can CISOs and CSOs discuss cyber threats with the C-Suite to get the resources they need? And how can the proper infrastructure test and verify possible malicious attacks?
