When faced with potential violence in the workplace, employees need to know how to respond in the moment. While safety measures like Run, Hide, Fight, and other protection strategies can be valuable workplace violence prevention tools, individuals in an organization must be prepared to keep themselves and their peers safe through verbal de-escalation. In this webinar, Jerry Dumond — Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police Authority at Sparrow Hospital, one of the busiest level one trauma centers in Michigan — shares real-world strategies for training employees to de-escalate potential workplace violence and respond to violent situations, should they arise.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Examine workplace violence threats and their effects on a healthcare organization.
  2. Determine priorities for the security department in regard to workplace violence.
  3. Prepare all employees to act in the face of workplace violence.
  4. Discuss verbal de-escalation strategies individuals can use when interacting with threat actors.
