American Science and Engineering told Zalud’s Blog about the receipt of a $2.8 million order from a Middle Eastern government for multiple Z Backscatter Vans. Configured for harsh environments, the ZBVs will be utilized for counterterrorism applications including securing government facilities and mobile checkpoints. The order includes AS&E provided operator training, service, and warranty.

“AS&E continues to increase its ZBV installed base in the Middle East,” said Anthony R. Fabiano, President and CEO. “With the ZBV’s exceptional versatility and explosives detection capability, it remains an ideal tool for this Middle East Government’s crucial mission to protect their high-threat facilities. Its varied operating modes provide maximum maneuverability and flexibility for multiple applications, including urban surveillance and checkpoint security.”

AS&E’s Z Backscatter Van: The Most Maneuverable, Versatile Mobile X-ray Detection System on the Market A breakthrough in X-ray detection technology, AS&E's Z Backscatter Van is the Number One selling non-intrusive mobile inspection system on the market. ZBV is a low-cost, highly mobile screening system built into a commercially available delivery van. The ZBV allows for immediate deployment in response to security threats, and its high throughput capability facilitates rapid inspections. The system’s unique “drive-by” capability allows one or two operators to conduct X-ray imaging while the ZBV drives past suspect vehicles and objects. For personnel safety in dangerous environments, a remote console is available for operating the system in stationary mode from a distance of up to 500 meters.
