More Florida schools implement panic alert solutions to comply with law requirement
Alyssa’s Law, signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis in June of 2020, requires all Florida public schools to have a mobile panic alarm system. The law was named in honor of Alyssa Alhadeff, who was killed in the Feb. 14, 2018, shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. The deadline for Florida school districts to comply is August 2021.
To comply, Polk, Sarasota, Charlotte, Nassau, Gadsden, Holmes, and Bradford County school districts have all selected Raptor Technologies' mobile panic alert system, which can connect school staff directly to first responders. These districts represent nearly 200,000 students and more than 450 schools in counties that are currently already using Raptor’s Visitor Management safety software.
With the Raptor Alert, teachers and staff can initiate an response to a school or district-wide emergency from any web-enabled mobile or desktop device. Alerts are delivered to a custom list of recipients, which can include administrators, staff members, and first responders.
