Congressman Michael McCaul is expected to be approved as chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security. The Republican lawmaker from Austin, who just won re-election to District 10, would replace Congressman Peter King of New York, who recently said he was leaving the post. The position oversees the Department of Homeland Security.

Congressman McCaul already chairs the subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations and Management, and has been very involved in the areas of immigration, border security and anti-terror measures.

Rep. Peter King released a statement, congratulating Rep. McCaul on his nomination.

McCaul on the Committee for the past several years, and he has been a very effective leader of the Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations, and Management and, previously, the Intelligence Subcommittee. I know that he is committed to securing our Homeland from terrorism and ensuring that the Department of Homeland Security acts in an effective and responsible manner.
