Juicing Up Biometrics
Government initiatives on a global scale and a newly-released biometric API drive more use by organizations of biometrics to control entrance to facilities and access to personal information. By enacting strict privacy
legislation, governments intend to hold companies accountable for the personal information they retain, says market consulting firm Frost & Sullivan. Look for continued shakeout of biometrics providers. But also look to a shakeup among approaches: finger-scan, hand geometry, iris recognition, voice verification, face recognition, signature verification and retina recognition. Some will zoom thanks to mass-market applications; others will niche into special use apps.
