By enacting strict privacy legislation, governments intend to hold companies accountable for the personal information they retain, says market consulting firm Frost & Sullivan. Look for continued shakeout of biometrics providers. But also look to a shakeup among approaches: finger-scan, hand geometry, iris recognition, voice verification, face recognition, signature verification and retina recognition. Some will zoom thanks to mass-market applications; others will niche into special use apps.
