University of Texas faculty council unanimously passed a resolution to ban guns from classrooms, laboratories, offices and dorms.

According to the resolution, allowing handguns inside buildings makes an "uneasy and potentially hostile environment for intellectual inquiry," said KVUE. Not only will applicants reconsider, proponents of the resolution said they believe current students may transfer to other universities.

UT President Gregory L. Fenves addressed the council before the vote, stating that he understands the concerns, but that there are limits on what he can do.

KVUE also reported that last week, 1,000 faculty members signed a petition against campus carry. They have also begun exploring legal actions.
