The Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) has launched emergency training for school communities across the state ahead of the upcoming school year.

The training, which is conducted by DEMA's Comprehensive School Safety Program in partnership with the I Love U Guys Foundation, focuses on safe reunification methods for staff, students and guardians after an emergency takes place.

According to a DEMA statement, the training program teaches staff members and response personnel how to address, organize and reunify staff and students post-event and will incorporate a simulated reunification exercise. The training can help schools prepare and bolster their emergency response to multiple types of incidents, ranging from severe weather to violence.

After the training takes place, Delaware school leaders will return to their facilities to launch a team dedicated to reunification procedures, according to DEMA.
