The G4S program includes armed G4S CPOs stationed in the emergency department and USOs who provide a combination of secured courier services with patrol duties. The blending of security and courier services is projected to save the healthcare system $150,000 annually while increasing the security presence. The entire outsourcing initiative is expected to save the healthcare system $1.5 Million over five years.

Background:

G4S is providing a total solution for a major healthcare system consisting of four full-service hospitals and an additional 25 plus satellite facilities. G4S replaced an in-house security program with more than 80 licensed and trained security personnel who are all equipped with Secure Trax®. The G4S officers perform a full range of access control, exterior and interior security patrols along with an innovative courier service. G4S armed security personnel are stationed in the hospital emergency department, protecting medical teams, patients and guests. G4S has also optimized its security program with a unique solution that offers the expertise of G4S security personnel in a dual role for the healthcare system. G4S officers, travelling in marked vehicles, provide secure courier services for the network of medical facilities. While making courier pick-ups and deliveries, G4S personnel also perform exterior building and parking lot patrols. The unique program increases security visibility at all locations. The healthcare system utilizes the G4S Command Center to track courier vehicles through GPS and each G4S officer uses Secure Trax to track the laboratory pick-ups and deliveries.

Recently, G4S conducted an in-depth survey of the physical security systems at the four hospitals. Currently, G4S is using that survey as a baseline for planning and developing cost effective and upgraded technology solutions for the future.
