CISO Burnout Isn’t a Personal Problem — It’s Organizational
Listen to Chris Bevil, global cyber resilience and AI leader at Commvault, in this podcast episode.

In this episode of Lock It Down with Security Magazine, Chris Bevil and I dug into the roots of CISO burnout. As a former CISO and current global cyber resilience and AI leader at Commvault, Bevil has first-hand accounts of burnout in the industry.
During our conversation, something he said resonated with me. He told me, “We have to stop treating sustainability as a personal wellness program and start really treating it as an organizational design problem.”
The issue of CISO burnout isn’t something CISOs should be expected to shoulder and solve alone. Instead, this should be recognized as the organizational concern that it is.
“The next stage of maturity is building [an organization] that does not require a hero every Tuesday, because that’s where the burnout is happening,” Bevil states.
In this podcast, Bevil shared insights on:
- Why CISOs are at high risk of burnout
- How AI-fueled attacks may exacerbate this issue
- How the role can become more sustainable
