Researchers from SafetyDetectives discovered a post on a web forum in which a malicious actor offers to sell a database, allegedly containing records on 61 million Verizon customers.
According to the research, this offer was posted on a well-known web forum on the clear surface web. The forum provides message boards for database downloads, leaks and more.
The offered data totals 3.1 GB in a file dated 2025, implying the data is recent. The research team reviewed the claim and found the data appears to be legitimate; however, the team cannot confirm if it truly belonged to Verizon customers.
The author of the post shared two screenshot samples of the data being offered, which revealed approximately 517 records. The information displayed includes:
- First and last names
- Genders
- Dates of birth
- Full addresses
- Two phone numbers per customer
- Tax ID and three more IDs per customer
If the data is legitimate and exposes the personal information of Verizon customers, they could be at risk of targeted social engineering attacks, phishing, identity theft and more.
