These days, when it comes to storage of video, it’s choice – not chance – that determines security’s success at meeting its mission with use of technology. This is true for enterprise security leaders at the biggest organizations, where large numbers of cameras create ingest, frame rate, image quality and physical storage cost challenges.
Information storage, according to psycho cybernetics author Paul Thomas, has to take place at the unconscious level. Less psycho– and more cyberfocused, Thomas has – unconsciously, no doubt – managed to get security video storage right, too.
Storage costs money. With the growing attraction of megapixel cameras coupled with expanding security video uses ranging from forensics to marketing, the storage price tag can go up and up. Then, depending on the devices and their closeness to the IT operation, there is the cost of running and cooling the gear as well as the investment in backup and redundant storage systems.
