Iowa Allows Legally Blind People to Carry Firearms, Stirs Debate
After Iowa permits legally blind people to buy and carry firearms in public, the debate over gun control legislation is back in the public forum, according to CNN.
Under the federal Gun Control Act of 1968, people who have been convicted of crimes and served time of more than a year, people addicted to controlled substances and anyone who has been committed to a mental institution are among those who aren’t allowed to possess firearms. Blocking visually impaired people from getting weapons permits could violate the Americans with Disabilities Act.
