The Biometrics Institute has released its 2012 Industry Survey, a look at the trends and developments in the industry over the last 12 months. The survey also polls members of the industry to learn what will be the probable developments in the near future.

According to Isabelle Moeller, Chief Executive of the Biometrics Institute: "The adoption of biometrics in everyday life is expected to be the most significant development in the future overall and in both Australia, New Zealand and Europe and amongst both users and suppliers."

Moeller continued: "It is interesting to see this change in perspective when in the previous two years, increased user acceptance had been the response but it is probably not surprising when looking at such news as Apple purchasing a fingerprint sensor manufacturer ("AuthenTec snapped up by Apple", Planet Biometrics, 30 July 2012)".

When asked what respondents thought the most significant development had been in the last 12 months, they cited large scale national ID deployments and Biometrics at the Border.
