National Security Adviser Resigns Today; Thomas Donilon to be Named
President
Obama will announce today Friday, Oct. 8, 2010 that Gen. James Jones, the
national security adviser, is resigning and will be replaced by Thomas E.
Donilon, the principal deputy national security adviser, according to the New
York Times. The article suggested that Jones’ departure may have been accelerated
because of his alleged comments as part of Bob Woodward’s recently introduced
book centering on the Obama Administration’s international policies. Donilon,
with roles in the Carter and Clinton administrations, has been quoted as urging
a shift from current war areas to a “focus more on China, Iran and other
emerging challenges.”
