On-Net Surveillance Systems Inc. (OnSSI), in IP video surveillance solutions, and Firetide, Inc., a developer of wireless mesh networks, have entered into a strategic alliance to provide comprehensive video surveillance control and management capabilities over the fastest mesh network available today. The alliance combines OnSSI’s field-proven software solutions to control and manage large IP-based video surveillance systems with Firetide’s high speed mesh networks.
“The interoperability of OnSSI’s software driven video surveillance solutions and Firetide’s high speed mesh networks expands the functionality of our software and provides users with a value added proposition for both new and existing systems,” said Gadi Piran, President and CTO of OnSSI. “Users employing this integrated solution will benefit from the unprecedented speed at which they can deliver the data they need without the inherent hindrances of slow networks or an overflow of incoming data.” The integrated wireless surveillance system solution has already been implemented by the Dallas Police Department in the city’s business district to deter and investigate crime. The majority of cameras in the system have PTZ capabilities providing officers with the ability to remotely monitor and follow activities in real time. Firetide mesh nodes form the wireless video network operating in the 4.9 GHz spectrum which is licensed by the FCC and designated for public safety agencies and first responders.

“The alliance between Firetide and OnSSI provides a highly efficient wireless video surveillance solution that has widespread applications both for government agencies and the private sector,” said Bo Larsson, CEO of Firetide. “As the success in Dallas showed, rapidly retrieving and managing all types of information – including real-time video surveillance – is now possible when public safety wireless networks have Firetide as their foundation.” By integrating Firetide’s multi-service mesh networking technologies and OnSSI’s IP video surveillance solution, the Dallas PD has virtually expanded its presence with remote surveillance along with the added benefit of using captured footage immediately, and for future reference during investigations and subsequent prosecutions. Additionally, first responders can monitor potentially threatening situations remotely allowing them to respond in the most appropriate manner possible.
