Target Safe City Continues Private/Public Project

Zalud’s Blog just learned that Federal Signal Corporation’s Safety and Security Systems Group has set a partnership with the community-based Safe City initiative. There will be more on successful Public-Private Projects in the October issue of Security Magazine.

“We are excited to have Federal Signal as a corporate partner,” said Steve Persian, Safe City national program manager at Target Corporation. “They offer an impressive mix of technology products and have a long standing and solid reputation as a leading provider of public safety and security solutions.”

Safe City is a community-based initiative that unites law enforcement, businesses, residents and city officials. The initiative leverages partnerships and technology to maximize safeness and minimize theft and other crimes in communities. In turn, Safe City helps enable safer communities in which to live, work and shop.

Federal Signal provides Safe City communities with preferred pricing for its technology, which includes automated license plate recognition capabilities, public safety software and mobile video systems, public safety wireless broadband networks, video surveillance systems, public warning systems and interoperable communications, alerting and notification systems.

Automated license plate recognition (ALPR) system has already been deployed as part of Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Advanced Surveillance and Protection (ASaP) Plan — a Safe City project. During the initial test phase, with advanced technology from PIPS in place, two wanted felons were identified and later arrested based on the intelligence made available by the ALPR system.
