There is a coming together of various exhibitors at ISC West. Brivo is working with Axis Communications with an inventive video-as-a-service offering. Genetec launched a technology partner program. Lenel and OnSSi. And VidSys is talking about their new PSIM-centric Convergence Center of Excellence. And more.

From Brivo – It has completed a major new addition to its Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) access control solution: an integrated, online video recorder (OVR) that streams IP video from customer locations to a secure Web hosting facility. Brivo built the video hosting platform in response to what it sees as a large, under-served market for Video-as-a-Service, particularly among small businesses and geographically distributed enterprises with widely dispersed assets. “OVR WebService is the first and only fully integrated, online access control plus video service,” explained Steven Van Till, Brivo President and CEO. “It adds built-in, hosted IP video functionality to Brivo’s award-winning ACS WebService hosted access control at a fraction of the cost of a dedicated DVR.”

Developed in partnership with Axis Communications, the new video service requires only an Axis network camera to be located at the customer site. From Brivo’s ACS WebService application, customers can then remotely view live and event-tagged video using a standard Web browser. “We are excited about the relationship with Brivo and providing an integrated, hosted SaaS model based on the Axis Video Hosting System,” said Fredrik Nilsson, general manager of Axis Communications Inc. “The ease of installation as well as Brivo’s hosting will make network camera surveillance systems very cost efficient for smaller enterprises and provide a great recurring revenue opportunity for dealers and central stations.” www.brivo.com

Therefore, numerous manufacturers are eligible to apply to Genetec’s Integrated Technology Partner Program, including providers of IP video devices, video walls, access control devices, audio devices, situation management solutions, access control solutions, point-of-sale solutions amongst many others.

Genetec’s Integrated Technology Partner Program was developed on a flexible structure that provides technology manufacturers with numerous integration development options, accommodating their specific needs according to factors such as depth of integration, time and available resources. Other benefits that technology partners can expect from Genetec’s new partner program include dedicated development support to help guide them through the process, an assigned program manager to oversee all major steps of the integration, online access to a databank of development resources and increased visibility with joint-marketing opportunities. www.genetec.com

From VidSys – The firm announced the formal opening of its Virginia-based multi-vendor Convergence Center of Excellence. Built to showcase the state of the art in physical and logical security convergence and the industry expertise, experience, and technology in some of the largest command centers in North America, the facility will promote multi-vendor cooperation, industry standards and best practices from over 30 companies and organizations.

“The Convergence Center of Excellence was created to serve as more than a physical space where industry vendors can come together and jointly demonstrate technology   integration,” remarked David Fowler, senior vice president, marketing and product development, VidSys. “It also provides a forum for sharing information, and a showcase and interoperability lab for the support of numerous standards efforts and business practices. Added to our current multi-vendor initiatives with the PSIMTrends website, monthly thought leadership webinars, standards groups, and presentations and panels at the biggest industry conferences, it creates a broad web of information sharing across the industry.”

“As a VidSys partner, we are excited to have this center to educate and demonstrate to the market the creation of a state-of-the-art command and control center with a common operating picture across physical security devices and networks to effectively manage and resolve situations that span agencies, groups, and first response teams,” said John Thompson, Government Markets Integrator Alliance Team, Motorola. “The center demonstrates best practices for multi-agency situation management.”

The Convergence Center of Excellence also includes systems from numerous other notable industry leaders and vendors including Barco, Cisco, Integral Security Solutions, Lenel, Nice Systems, OnSSI, ShotSpotter, Tyco/Software House and Verint. VidSys further extends its reach across the industry by participating in some of the leading integration labs in the industry including Coleman Technologies, Cisco COE, Raytheon, and ViaLogy. www.vidsys.com

From Intransa -- It has been selected by Garland Power & Light, a southwestern municipal utility, to upgrade the company’s surveillance systems for physical infrastructure protection. Since 1923, the City of Garland has been providing electric service to its citizens through Garland Power & Light (GP&L), a locally owned and controlled not-for-profit municipal utility. With nearly 68,000 customers, GP&L is the third largest municipal utility in Texas and the 41st largest in the nation.

GP&L needed to expand and enhance video surveillance protection of its wide-raging infrastructure and facilities, well beyond the capabilities of the existing IP-based CCTV system.

“The IP surveillance system is a major component in our ability to monitor and protect our critical infrastructure,” said David Grubbs, GP&L’s Regulatory & Compliance Director. “The Intransa Video Data Management and Retention platform provides scalable capacity that will allow our new surveillance solution to cost effectively meet our objectives, now and in the future.”

“Because of the design of the Intransa System, we have been able to meet the bandwidth requirements of a large number of cameras recording continuously as well as vast storage capability to meet our storage requirements of up to 90 days of recorded video,” Grubbs added.

GP&L has an extensive and widely dispersed infrastructure, and wanted to improve image quality, increase coverage, and extend video retention capacity for its video surveillance system. The utility has three gas-fired generating plants with a total of 640 megawatts of generating capacity, supported by a transmission system of 23 substations and 133 miles of transmission lines. In addition, the City of Garland is a partner in the Texas Municipal Power Agency, which operates the 462 megawatt coal-fired Gibbons Creek Power Plant. GP&L’s energy distribution system has 1,007 miles of overhead lines and another 1,000 miles underground.

Preferred Technology Solutions, a member of the Intransa StorPartner integrator and dealer program, architected a complete solution for GP&L, providing Axis Communications megapixel cameras for greatly improved coverage and higher image resolution. Eventually, more than 300 IP cameras are envisioned for complete video coverage to meet GP&L’s requirements.

“Working with Intransa, we have integrated the three brands of previously installed IP cameras and are able to utilize the newer technologies and cameras as they become available,” said Grubbs. “We are impressed with the ease of expanding the system and are already beginning the next phase expansion of the storage system.”

The Milestone XProtect Enterprise Video Management System, running on a commodity server, provides a new level of video management and control to meet GP&L’s needs for both live stream monitoring and video archiving capabilities. Milestone Systems and Axis Communications products are among the more than 150 physical security, imaging and technology solutions that have been certified for risk-free integration by the Intransa StorAlliance Technology Labs.

Supporting the new video surveillance system is an Intransa BuildingBlock Security-Grade Video Retention platform. Intransa BuildingBlock can scale from as little as 6TB (terabytes) of non-stop video retention and instant playback. Additional capacity and performance can be modularly added, without ever halting recording or playback, providing for years of retention capacity of 1,500TB or more. www.intransa.com

Lenel To Private Label OnSSI’s IP Video Management Solution

SkyPoint Video Management Platform Provides Solution For Large Integrated Systems

From Lenel and OnSSI – A new user-friendly video management platform that provides software tools to seamlessly monitor and manage hundreds of cameras while simultaneously investigating video, is now available as a result of a partnership between Lenel Systems International Inc and On-Net Surveillance Systems (OnSSI). Lenel is part of UTC Fire & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. In the new agreement Lenel will private-label OnSSI’s video surveillance software, Ocularis, under the name SkyPoint. SkyPoint’s intelligent, open-architecture IP video platform offers a simple, intuitive interface for desktop and control room video wall settings. It also offers integration potential with other aspects of security. A further benefit of the platform is that it requires fewer system operators to detect and respond to events, helping to reduce costs for users. “The system’s interactivity and support for an optional touch screen offer unprecedented simplicity. With a single click or touch of a finger, the user can instantly investigate incidents and direct alerts between users. It’s so easy to operate that it only takes a few minutes to train operators to be proficient,” said Luis Orbegoso, President of Lenel.

Orbegoso said that SkyPoint is ideal in environments where multiple cameras safeguard many security protection points and operators need to be able to see everything that is going on and respond appropriately. “Typical environments might be a transportation infrastructure or government facility, or enterprises with many security protection points to safeguard,” he said.

“The partnership between two industry leaders, Lenel in IP access control, and OnSSI in IP video management, reflects the great potential value and benefit that users will be able to derive from an open-architecture platform solution. We are pleased to enter into a partnership with Lenel and look forward to working with their talented team,” said Gadi Piran, president and CTO of OnSSI. “Ultimately, Lenel’s ability to integrate key components of the physical security solution set will enable the end-user enterprise to greatly improve security performance and efficiency,” Piran added.

Virtualization and Data Center Security: What You Need to Know for 2014

Data centers are increasingly becoming the center of the enterprise, and data center and cyber security is following the same path for security departments. According to Justin Flynn, a consultant at the Burwood Group, the virtualization of data centers allows enterprises to scale more easily and faster, with a smaller footprint.

However, hosting enterprise data in the cloud can make intrusion detection more difficult – how can enterprise security leaders team up with other departments to keep aware of cyber risks and traffic, and physical and data compliance during the virtual transition? How can CISOs and CSOs discuss cyber threats with the C-Suite to get the resources they need? And how can the proper infrastructure test and verify possible malicious attacks?
