A memo sent to United States House of Representatives staff announced that WhatsApp is banned from House devices.
Staff members are encouraged to utilize other platforms for communication needs. This may be partially due to WhatsApp being targeted by Israeli spyware in January 2025, an incident in which spyware company Paragon targeted users in two dozen countries.
The memo states that the “Office of Cybersecurity has deemed WhatsApp a high risk to users due to the lack of transparency in how it protects user data, absence of stored data encryption, and potential security risks involved with its use.”
