An April 17 stabbing on a Cleveland trolley was recorded by a transportation video surveillance (TVS) system, and police released the captured video of the incident to help identify the perpetrator.

The disturbing footage, captured by a TVS system from A4S Security Inc. of Loveland, Colo., was aired repeatedly on national and local television stations. Cleveland police reported a flood of tips after the footage was aired, leading the identification and arrest of the perpetrator just three days after the crime was committed. “We received myriad phone calls and tips,” said police Lt. Thomas Stacho. “A number didn’t pan out, some did.” The high-quality video is still available online from local news sources (visit www.newsnet5.com/video/8820603/index.html).

The Cleveland Regional Transit Authority, which operates the trolley, purchased the Colorado company’s Shiftwatch system (pictured) and deployed it on 11 of its trolleys and buses.
