Invisible Security and Innovative Architecture Combined

Installation of the entire security package comes from a single supplier. Fire sensors are camouflaged and recessed into the structure to blend perfectly with the architecture at this BMW dealership in Munich.

Buildings and architecture are becoming more attractive with the help of a little ingenuity. Because sleek architecture still needs to contain security and fire technology, the creators of BMW World in Munich, Germany have seamlessly adapted the technology to be disguised within the structure.

Bosch has installed groundbreaking, comprehensive systems to protect visitors and employees at the new BMW World. The system blends quite discreetly into the astounding architecture of the new Event and Delivery Center, with its distinctive double helix and its roof designed to resemble a floating cloud.

The task of early fire detection falls to about 3,000 fire detectors. The hold-up and intrusion alarm system, consisting of 400 individual alarm detectors, monitors the outer perimeter and other sensitive areas. All reports are forwarded to a total of four universal security systems, which initiate lifesaving procedures if the alarm is sounded.

In order to ensure that nothing detracts from the architecture, Bosch’s almost invisible smoke detector 500 series is used in especially sensitive areas. The detectors have been colored to blend into their surroundings and recessed artfully into the ceilings.

Besides the fire protection and intrusion alarm system, a video surveillance system, emergency exit door controller and a public address system have been installed. If a fire does break out, a Praesideo public address system with 1,800 integrated loudspeakers located throughout the building ensures that visitors and employees receive full and reliable information. Eighty emergency exit doors are controlled centrally to ensure that the building can be rapidly evacuated, if the situation involves serious danger.

The security and fire systems that were installed reflect the very latest technology and perform in perfect harmony with the remarkable design of BMW World.
