The
world of university and college campuses brings to mind openness and
acceptance, an environment that in some ways seems to insulate these
institutions from outside influences. But this may give a false sense of
security, and especially in light of the fact that violence has indeed found
its way into one of the last bastions of innocence. As one of the participants
in the following roundtable pointed out, “I think perhaps the most unique
characteristic about college and university setting is that we operate in an
‘artificially created community.’”
