Comprehensive Security Programs in Higher Education

KEYWORDS: active shooter response / public safety / security leaders
1/19/23 2:00 pm to 1/19/24 EST
Contact: Amy Jackson

Georgetown University, a major international research university with nine schools, an affiliated hospital, and many highly-ranked academic programs, has a mature, layered security program. The university has more than 12,000 undergraduate and graduate students taking classes at five locations, including Washington, D.C., and Georgetown’s Qatar campus. Georgetown’s Public Safety team has developed innovative community support programs, which include a Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), Crisis Intervention Trained (CIT) Officers, and a campus-wide Active Shooter Response training program. Jay Gruber, Associate Vice-President for Public Safety and Chief Public Safety Officer at Georgetown University will — through his own experiences and storytelling — teach security leaders how to identify areas where campuses can build comprehensive, community-focused programs that limit risk, leverage technology and allow educational institutions to offer students and staff a safe place to learn and work.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify and execute non-traditional community-facing safety and security services.
  2. Leverage technology to support the mission of a safe and secure educational environment.
  3. Manage high-profile events and visitors to campus settings.
  4. Extend and reinvigorate mature existing public safety and security programs.

Earn: 0.1 IACET CEU

BNP Media is authorized by the IACET to offer 0.1 CEU for this program.
Participants completing this course may be eligible to receive Continuing Professional Education credit or CPEs toward ASIS re-certification.
Training may qualify for related continuing education for recertification activity through NICET. Students may claim one (1) Continuing Professional Development (CPD) point per hour of instruction towards their NICET recertification requirement for any sessions that expand their knowledge of the subject matter pertaining to the certifications they hold.
