The White house announced additional steps for managing the risks of artificial intelligence (AI). The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) is releasing a National AI R&D Strategic Plan.

The plan is designed to build on previous statements made regarding AI and national security concerns. The White House announced an independent commitment from leading AI developers, including Anthropic, Google, Hugging Face, Microsoft, NVIDIA, OpenAI and Stability AI, to participate in a public evaluation of AI systems. The exercise is designed to provide critical information to researchers and the public about the impacts of these models, and will enable AI companies and developers to take steps to fix issues found in those models.

The OSTP is issuing a Request for Information (RFI) to seek input on national priorities for mitigating AI risks, protecting individuals’ rights and harnessing AI to improve lives.
