Former Secret Service Director James Murray named CSO at Snapchat

James Murray, the former Director of the U.S. Secret Service, has joined Snap Inc. as Chief Security Officer (CSO).

Murray leaves his 29-year law enforcement and public service career for the private sector, holding the top security role at the social media firm, according to Reuters.

Murray, who was sworn in as Director of the Secret Service in May 2019, has held national security roles across the agency, from Special Agent to Assistant Director of the Office of Protective Operations. He served as the operational site supervisor for many high-profile government events, including the 2009 inauguration of former president Barack Obama, according to the agency's website.

"Director Murray’s leadership of the Secret Service is the capstone of a remarkable career of more than thirty years of service to our country – with the U.S. Department of Transportation, the United States Army Reserves, and for 27 years with the United States Secret Service," said Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas in a statement.
