Biometrics and pre-registration added to Luxembourg airport border control
Luxembourg's international airport, which hosted over 1.4 million passengers in 2020, will further secure its border control entry-exit system (EES) with self-service pre-registration kiosks, mobile pre-registration solutions and biometric acquisition units for security booths.
With the new EES, passengers from third countries will have to register with their fingerprints and a facial image when entering the Schengen area. The biometric data will be stored together with information from passports in the central EES. The system aims to provide data on border crossings, avoid identity fraud and detect forged travel documents as well as illegal immigration by revealing overstayed visas.
