The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh received a $1.1 million grant to help enhance security of staff and property. The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh leads the effort to coordinate services across Jewish agencies and to ensure that families have the support they need at the critical time they need it. The organization aims to create a thriving, vibrant and engaged Jewish community by raising and allocating funds and building community locally, in Israel and around the world.

The grant was requested after a shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in 2018. The Pittsburgh synagogue shooting was a mass shooting that took place on October 27, 2018, at the Tree of Life – Or L'Simcha Congregation in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The shooting killed 11 people and a suspect was charged with 29 counts.
