U.S. House Democrats Pass SHIELD Act to Combat Foreign Interference in Elections
The House approved the Stopping Harmful Interference in Elections for a Lasting Democracy (SHIELD) Act that aims to better protect the country's elections from foreign interference.
The SHIELD Act was introduced by Committee on House Administration Chairperson Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.). The act will close loopholes that allow foreign spending in our elections, boost disclosure and transparency requirements and create a duty to report illicit offers of campaign assistance from foreign nations or governments, says a press release.
