From 2014 to 2015, there was no statistically significant change in the overall rate of violent crime, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS).
The rate of violent victimization was 18.6 victimizations per 1,000 persons age 12 or older in 2015, the BJS said, which was significantly lower than the rate in 1993 (79.8 per 1,000), the oldest year of data currently available from the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS).
