Home » Obama Administration to Allocate Funds for Armed Police in Schools
The Obama administration plans to spend millions of dollars to place armed police officers in school across the U.S. in a move advocated by the National Rifle Association in the wake of the Newtown, Conn. shooting last year, according to Fox News.
The Department of Justice is giving nearly $45 million to fund 356 new school resource officer positions, and funding will be provided by grants from the department’s Community Oriented Police Services office, the article says. The department has already allocated $150,000 to put police officers in Newtown schools, and the grant from the department’s Bureau of Justice Assistance is intended to fund two positions, such as resource officers.
