Home Depot Inc., has hired its first chief information security officer.

Jamil Farshchi will manage information security, data protection and vulnerability management, a Home Depot spokesman told CIO Journal. He will report to Chief Information Officer Matt Carey.

This is a new position within Home Depot and the first to deal solely with IT security, said a Wall Street Journal report. Security previously fell under Daniel Grider, VP of information technology, the Journal said.

Farshchi most recently was CISO at Time Warner Inc. Prior to that, he was vice president for global information security at Visa Inc. where he was responsible for protecting the company’s consumer payment card transactions, among other duties.
