Convergence 2.0

by Bill Zalud

Things are coming together as business and IT needs quickly meld with physical security's mission.

For some people, it is the dreaded "C" word. It's convergence. When the concept first hit in the early 2000s, there was fear and loathing as some security leaders saw it as an attack or take-over. Today, many executives with primary responsibility for physical security see convergence as an opportunity and a partnership in which the operation can ally with enterprise colleagues as well as bond more closely with the organization's business missions.

Today Convergence 2.0 is being driven by interdependency, efficiency and organizational simplification, security awareness, regulations, directives, standards and the evolving global communications infrastructure. The Impact of Economic Recession on Security Program Management

Have you considered how the economic downturn might be impacting your company and your security programs? Security Executive Council Live brings together the former CSOs of American Express and Fidelity Investments to help you rethink how regulations and compliance; people and property protection; information protection; and mergers and acquisitions are impacted during our current economic downturn.

Highlighted are inherent security risks to business goals based on assumptions of current and forecasted conditions. How to monitor, measure and track the success of security program shifts aligned with potentially new or altered business goals will also be covered.

You'll come away with insights on what tactics and strategies can be used to minimize the impact the economy may have on their company, and how ranking risks will help determine the value and importance of security programs as mitigation strategies.

Escalating Violence Has Led Some To Support Metal Detectors
To Erase The Threat Of Guns And Knives

A student at Buffalo's Riverside Institute of Technology fought with two security officers and the principal, sparking a larger brawl that drew in other students. An 11-year-old pupil brought a handgun and bullets to school at Campus West. Card access control. Biometrics. PIN. For physical and logical security needs, often employees must use different sign ons for various applications. While, on the surface, the approach may seem like it provides higher level security, the truth is that the cost of maintaining these entries as well as the cost of a help desk are often extreme.

Enter the single sign on.
